What this is
A summer of karaoke that ends in a grand fundraiser for the Open Heart Women's Shelter.
Since May, singers have taken the stage at Don’s Tap on the second Saturday of every month, competing for a spot in the Grand Finale. Five of them are going to the Finale. On September 12 the contest kicks off at 7:00, and when the contest concludes, the microphone opens to anyone who willing to donate to sing.
That open-mic hour is Sing for a Cause. There’s no sign-up sheet and no judging. You give what you can, you pick your song, and you sing. Everything raised goes to the Open Heart Women’s Shelter right here in Marion.

The finalists
Give in honor of a singer.
Give in honor of the singer you want to cheer for. The singer whose supporters raise the most by September 12 is named Fan Favorite! This is a title of honor, separate from the Grand Champion the judges decide on the night. Your gift moves the fundraising meter, not the scoreboard.
Why five and not four. Chris finished second in June, then again in July, then again in August; three rounds, three near-misses with one point between him and first place, and a room that got louder for him every time. RoLo Entertainment and Andy McCord of Eighty8 Entertainment agreed he had earned a place on that stage, and we were thrilled to give him one. He goes to the Finale as our Wild Card.

Gifts received above the current need are used for urgent care and recovery programs throughout the year. Open Heart Women’s Shelter has served over 500 women since opening in 2006 and today houses up to 24 women and children.

Straight answers
Questions people may ask.
Does RoLo keep any of this?
No. Every donation goes directly to Grant County Rescue Mission through their own platforms.
Am I betting on a singer?
No. You’re making a donation in honor of a singer. Nothing is wagered and nothing is won — donors receive no prize, no entry and no chance at anything of value. Fan Favorite is a title of honor for the performer alone. Indiana law is strict about games of chance, and this is simply a charitable gift with a name attached.
Do donations decide who wins the contest?
They decide the Fan Favorite title only. The Grand Champion, and the prize table that goes with it, is decided by the judges on performance alone — the same way every qualifying round was judged all summer. Donations have no effect on who places first, second or third.
Do I have to sing?
Absolutely not. Come, sit, clap, eat, give. The open mic is there for anyone who wants it after the contest.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. The Rescue Mission issues tax receipts for online and Cash App donations. Cash given at the bar can’t be receipted, so give online if you need documentation.
Do I get anything for donating?
Only the receipt and the satisfaction. There are no donor prizes, drawings or giveaways attached to giving. The prizes on the table belong to the finalists and are earned by singing.
Can I give if I can’t make it on September 12?
Yes, and it counts the same. Donations are open now and close at the end of the Finale.
