There’s something powerful about looking back and reflecting on the road you’ve walked. I recently sat down to write a letter to my younger self, and what started as a personal exercise quickly revealed some truths that might resonate with others. So, today, I’m sharing that reflection here—in hopes that it encourages you wherever you are on your journey.
Dear 10-Year Old Self,
Hey, it’s me—well, you—from 33 years in the future. Let me tell you, the road ahead is full of twists, turns, and a whole lot of growth. There will be unexpected surprises, some tough detours, and plenty of joyful moments, too. Every experience you’re going through right now, and everything that’s coming, is shaping you into someone strong, kind, and intentional.
Here’s what I want you to know: it’s okay to be afraid. Life will sometimes feel heavy. But being brave doesn’t mean you never feel fear—it means showing up anyway, even when your voice shakes. You’ll face heartbreak. You’ll stumble. But you’ll rise again. Every time.
You’ll also discover something beautiful: you don’t have to do life alone. You’ll find friends, mentors, and loved ones who will walk with you, lift you up, and remind you of your worth. Let them. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s connection.
And about those mistakes you’ll make? Yep, there will be plenty. But here’s the thing—they’re not the end of your story. They’re part of your becoming. Each one will teach you something valuable. Be gentle with yourself. Learn, forgive, grow.
You might feel pressure to shrink yourself to fit into places where you don’t belong. Don’t. Be bold. Be curious. Be loud if that’s who you are. There is power in your authenticity, and your life will shine brightest when you lean into your true self.
At 43, here’s how I now define success: Peace within myself. Helping others. Living on purpose. The journey has taught me to value faith, family, community, and curiosity over perfection or approval.
And you know what? You still won’t have all the answers. That’s part of the magic. The journey is the destination.
So, keep laughing your loud, beautiful laugh. It’s a blessing. Share your smile, even on the tough days. Let joy be your anchor.
You’re going to be okay. Actually, you’re going to be amazing. Stay open-hearted. Keep showing up.
With love,
Your future self
Whether you’re just getting started or are well into your own journey, I hope this encourages you to reflect, forgive, and keep moving forward. You’re never too young or too old to choose growth and purpose. Let’s keep going—together.
