How RoLo Entertainment has reshaped its business

It’s been a year full of great events, and I feel hopeful about where RoLo Entertainment is headed. Our approach to working with our community and the surrounding area as DJs has evolved a little, and I couldn’t be happier about the direction it’s taken.

When we stepped away from the weekly karaoke bar gig, there was real concern about whether we’d still be able to make this work as a sustainable business. I’ll be honest: it isn’t paying the bills for Roger and me. But it has picked up, and in the best way. We’ve started doing a much wider variety of events: class reunions, surprise birthday parties, pajama birthday parties, and plenty of community gatherings. We’ve had the joy of working with the City of Marion this year, and even partnering with local organizations and nonprofits like Cancer Services of Grant County and the Grant County Rescue Mission. We love it. And we hope it keeps growing.

One of my favorite reinventions this year was our karaoke series at Don’s Tap. It was a throwback to old-fashioned bar karaoke, but with a twist, we hosted one night a month from May through September, and each one doubled as a fundraiser for the Open Heart Women’s Shelter. Local artists, business owners, and community leaders pitched in to fill our prize bags, and it grew into something bigger than a night of singing. It reminded me that we didn’t have to leave karaoke behind. We just adapted how we host karaoke and added a personal touch.

On September 19, I DJ’d a class reunion in Winchester. I didn’t know a single person from the class of 2006 before I walked in the building to setup. My contact with the class found us online, and we did everything through text, email, and a couple of phone calls. Then I simply showed up on the day of the event.

And it was wonderful! This group was so welcoming. Even with everything they were focused on for their own reunion, they went out of their way to take care of me and keep their DJ happy. They didn’t have to do that, but I appreciated it. The food was delicious, and by the end of the night, I honestly felt like we were all friends. That’s a really cool feeling to walk away with. I felt like I’d added value to their event; they had fun and enjoyed what I brought as their emcee, DJ, and karaoke host.

It’s the kind of night that makes me want to keep going down this path and do more of exactly this.

We’re even starting to explore some new possibilities, but I won’t get ahead of myself. No big announcements just yet. For now, I’m keeping the focus on the entertainment side and how much it’s grown.

Coming up, we’re looking forward to the Jonesboro River Rally, September 24 through 27. We’ll be DJing for several hours each day, we won’t be out there the whole time, but we’ll be around, and I hope you’ll come enjoy our contribution to the fun.

And as always, if you need a DJ, let us know. We’d love to be part of your next event.
